“Bond — James Bond” vs. “Bond — Lifetime Bond”

1)  “Bond — James Bond”

In the first James Bond movie, Dr. No, Sean Connery identifies himself by saying:  “Bond (long pause) James Bond!”  For 50 years, from that first Bond movie to Sky Fall, the 23rd one, the Bond franchise has been brainwashing the public to embrace James’ attitude and behavior toward sex.

James Bond sees sex as a meaningless, pleasurable activity, designed for nothing but conquest and personal satisfaction.  For him, women are mere objects to be used for self-gratification.  Bond has no regard for consequences.  No long-term concern for the other person.  James Bond has absolutely no honor for the greater purposes of sex — deep emotional/spiritual intimacy; long-term and mutually supportive union; procreation; and providing a loving stable home for family and society.

2)  “Bond — Lifetime Bond

Both my parents and in-laws have been married for more than 60 years.  My two brothers and 4 brothers and sisters-in-law have decades long marriages.  My wife and I have been married for 21 years.  I would be totally shocked if any of those couples decided to divorce.

A lifetime bond opens the door to intimacy far greater than mere physical activity.  It provides a companion, not just for a momentary stand or a passing fancy — but for a lifetime adventure of deep love and mutual support.  It creates solid family rather than fractured fantasy.

A lifetime bond is not perfect.  It’s not easy.  It takes hard work, sacrificial commitment, guts, and self-denial, but the joys far outweigh the difficulties.  In fact, the blessings and benefits of someone who loves you so much that they won’t dump you for another, carry you through the trials.

James Bond can have his sexcapades, spreading his sperm (and quite probably disease) far and wide.  He can have his record of broken hearts; lies; manipulating women; unwanted kids and/or abortions; buried inner guilt; and emotional loneliness.

I’ll stick with lifetime bond.

(There is one other Bond you should know about — General Linda Bond, worldwide leader of The Salvation Army.  If you google her, you will learn a lot.)
