A Simple Syllogism About Sunday Church Services

A simple syllogism:

* Jesus is alive and present when believers meet together.
* Jesus is smarter than any man.
* Therefore, we should let Jesus lead Sunday morning church services instead of a man leading them.

When the Holy Spirit (Christ with us) is allowed to freely flow from person to person in church meetings, spiritual dryness disappears!

Perhaps church services should be more about releasing a vibrant inner flow than about rehearsing religious ideas that you know.

“We can change the way we do things in the church – the spread of the Gospel demands it. So be confident in God’s desire for the church to grow and change.” –Pope Francis

“(Jesus) works on us in all sorts of ways; but above all He works on us through each other.” –C.S. Lewis.  Every Sunday morning at The Salvation Army Berry Street (225 Berry St, Nashville, 37207 on Sundays at 10:45 am) Jesus works on us through each other as regular people show and tell what God has done.

Dietrich Bonhoeffer said: “The first service that one owes to others in the fellowship consists in listening to them. Just as love to God begins with listening to His Word, so the beginning of love for the brethern is learning to listen to them. It is God’s love for us that He not only gives us His Word but also lends us His ear. So it is His work that we do for our brother when we learn to listen to him.” –”Life Together.”

Are everyday people being listened to in your church service?

About Steve Simms

I like to look and think outside the box. I have written two books: Mindrobics: How To Be Happy For The Rest Of Your Life and Your Sperm Won--Experiencing Your Value As A Championship Human Being. In college I encountered Jesus Christ and I have been passionate about trying to get to know Him better ever since. My wife and I lead a non-traditional church in Nashville based on open participation and Spirit-led sharing. We long to see the power and passion of the early church come to life in our time.

  6. Rick Owen says:

    The Reigning Christ
    poured out His Spirit
    upon His Body
    to do His ministry
through a variety of spiritual (Spirit-given) gifts
by every member of His church.

“Do not quench the Spirit” (1 Thess. 5:19).
