Church — A Flow Or A Show?

Is church more of a show or more of a flow?  Wind and rivers are symbols of the Holy Spirit. The wind blows, a river flows; but the church tends to show what it knows through programs and presentations rather than through spiritual flows.

God’s flow is part of the human heart, yet most of us have been trained to keep it turned off.  This is especially the case during church services.

We want to be in the know. God wants us to be in His flow. We’ve turned church into a lecture series (the tree of the knowledge of good and evil). God wants church to be Spirit-led community (the tree of life). (“For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.” –Romans 8:14.)

So, what would happen if instead of having people sit passively like they are watching a show, church released people to go with God’s flow and do whatever the Spirit tells them to do? Come and see for yourself, Sunday 10:45 am. and/or Tuesday 6:00 pm, 225 Berry St., Nashville, TN 37207 — The Salvation Army Berry Street.

About Steve Simms

I like to look and think outside the box. I have written two books: Mindrobics: How To Be Happy For The Rest Of Your Life and Your Sperm Won--Experiencing Your Value As A Championship Human Being. In college I encountered Jesus Christ and I have been passionate about trying to get to know Him better ever since. My wife and I lead a non-traditional church in Nashville based on open participation and Spirit-led sharing. We long to see the power and passion of the early church come to life in our time.
