Dead Man Walking Day is better known as Easter. It is the day we remember the crucified Son of Man getting up from among the corpses and walking out of His tomb.
For untold millions of people, the Resurrection of Jesus Christ is not remembered or celebrated as a mere myth or as a fancied fable or even as a religious reality. Rather, it is a verifiable fact. This dead Man is still walking the world that we live in–alive He never returned to the tomb.
We have the written testimony of eye witnesses who were there when He rose — who touched His risen body, ate a meal with Him, and saw Him rise into the spiritual realm. And we have the testimony of people through out the past 2,000 years who have encountered the living, resurrected Jesus in their historical time period.
We have the testimony of hundreds of thousands who actually encountered Jesus in the USA during the Jesus Movement of the 1960s and 1970s. We have the testimony of about 50 million house-church-Christians in China who have met Jesus alive from the dead.
So how about you? Have you encountered this dead Man walking in your world? He’s there, all the time, waiting and seeking your attention, your heart, your surrender.
Easter can be like hearing someone talking about a thrilling experience they had, but you missed out on — sounding too good to be true. But Easter is much more effective if you, yourself, sincerely ask Jesus to show you His reality–to demonstrate to you that He is alive.
41 years ago Jesus showed me that He is alive and I’ve been overwhelmed by His presence and reality ever since. For me Easter is not an annual celebration, but a daily walk with the dead Man who now lives, even in the 21st Century.
