It’s Time For Another Jesus Movement (Original Thoughts On Organic Church)

We need another Jesus movement, however, if we don’t allow Jesus to move in and direct His church, how can we expect Jesus to move in the world?  But, when we allow Jesus the actual freedom to personally direct our gatherings, we begin to experience organic church.

A church meeting where only one person shares the word is like a shower nozzle with only one hole.  It greatly limits and shuts down the Holy Spirit’s flow.  However, when we open up that nozzle and allow every member to participate, the Spirit flows from the “innermost being” of believers with words of knowledge, revelation, testimonies, and glory!

Organic church begins in the heart and then when Christ’s life springs out of various individuals, there is glorious spiritual life manifest in our assembly. Organic church is a network of people being led by the Spirit, not a hierarchy of people managing a service, an organization, or programs.

If Jesus is alive (I mean, really alive) then He is very capable of directing church meetings, all by Himself, without the need of human organization and control.

So, how about in our church meetings, we allow individuals to speak when Jesus tells them to speak, and to sit in silence when Jesus tells them to be quiet?  Organic church allows the Holy Spirit to flow through and use whosoever He chooses.  A key to organic church is no ego or human control to slow (or shut down) the Spirit’s flow.

A formula for organic church — 2 or more gathered together + Jesus alive in their midst – human control and direction = organic church.

Organic church is abundant spiritual growth spontaneously produced in people by the life of the Holy Spirit.

Fire comes when embers are gathered together and fanned.  God’s fire comes when His people gather in His name and fan His living flame in one another.

Organic church turns life into a mission.  The entire life of a believer, every single day and moment, becomes a mission trip.

About Steve Simms

I like to look and think outside the box. In college I encountered Jesus Christ and I have been passionate about trying to get to know Him better ever since. My wife and I co-lead a non-traditional expression of the body of Christ in Nashville based on open participation and Spirit-led sharing. We long to see the power and passion of the first Christ-followers come to life in our time. I have written a book about our experiences called, "Beyond Church: An Invitation To Experience The Lost Word Of The Bible--Ekklesia" that is available in Kindle & paperback @ http://amzn.to/2nCr5dP
