Drenched With God / Soaked With HIs Presence

We need to be drenched with God's Presence.

“You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you . . .”  As I read those words yesterday morning, the picture of a man drenched with water popped into my mind.  I’ve always thought about the Holy Spirit being “in” me and that is a wonderful thing; however, the Holy Spirit also wants to be “on” me (and you).  He wants us to walk around looking like the guy in this picture — soaked with His Presence.

So how do you get and stay soaked with God?  You have to remain in constant contact with Him — to stay in the flow of His Spirit.

God has told me to read the New Testament Book Of Acts over and over this year.  Yesterday morning, in the ides of March, before I began my 6th time through it this year, I was wondering how long I need to keep reading it.  Then thought came to me to stay in Acts until I start living it and experiencing it everyday.

Later in the day, I came across an article by General Linda Bond, the international leader of The Salvation Army.  She was saying that The Salvation Army needs to be like the Book of Acts, filled with the power and Presence of God.  She said that we should stay in Acts until that happens.

I was amazed to get a confirmation of what I have been hearing in my spirit.  So I’ll keep reading Acts.

I was also amazed at the fresh revelation I was receiving while reading my 6th time through Acts in 2 1/2 months.  As I read Jesus’ words:  “It is not for you to know the dates and the times the Father has set,”  it dawned on me that Western Christianity is all about knowing, studying, and learning details about God.  Jesus said that we are not to know, yet we seem to ignore Him and instead focus on knowing and speculating about all kinds of spiritual things.

Instead of knowing, Jesus says at the beginning of Acts, that we will receive power.  Power is far superior to knowledge.  For example, we humans know all about the dangers of smoking, but untold millions of us lack the power to stop.

We need God’s power.  We need to be plugged into to God so that His current (the Holy Spirit) can flow through us.  We don’t need to know, we need to unblock God’s flow and get soaked with His Presence. Then we will be His witnesses as people see us dripping with God.

I want to walk around drenched with God — to live under the waterfall of God’s glory swept along by the flow of His Presence.  That’s power!  Anything less is mere religion.

Paul of Tarsus put it this way.  He said that many people will be “having a form or godliness, but denying (ignoring) the power thereof; from such turn away.”  Perhaps it is time to give up the pursuit of knowledge about God and to begin to seek to soak in His splendor, in His awesome Presence!

Come Holy Spirit, drown my will in Yours.

About Steve Simms

I like to look and think outside the box. In college I encountered Jesus Christ and I have been passionate about trying to get to know Him better ever since. My wife and I co-lead a non-traditional expression of the body of Christ in Nashville based on open participation and Spirit-led sharing. We long to see the power and passion of the first Christ-followers come to life in our time. I have written a book about our experiences called, "Beyond Church: An Invitation To Experience The Lost Word Of The Bible--Ekklesia" that is available in Kindle & paperback @ http://amzn.to/2nCr5dP

  1. You’re speaking right to me Steve. God bless you mate. I am preaching on the book of Acts at the moment and wrestling with God about witnessing the reality of the kinds of miracles that the early church was experiencing when they were faithfully preaching the gospel of Jesus to their surroundings.

I came across this blog today and just had to share! This part, in Steve’s blog, jumped out at me. “As I read Jesus’ words: “It is not for you to know the dates and the times the Father has set,” it dawned on me that Western Christianity is all about knowing, studying, and learning details about God. Jesus said that we are not to know, yet we seem to ignore Him and instead focus on knowing and speculating about all kinds of spiritual things.”
In fact my wife and I were discussing last night about ‘not knowing’ and that all of Christ’s followers need to be ready.
