Before the manifestation of matter, when there were no waves or particles; no electrons, protons, or neutrons; no light or sound; no nature or natural laws; Jesus was. Before the stars were scattered across the expanse of space, Jesus was. The history of the universe is His story — the big bang of creation was His doing.
And now, as I write, Jesus is here. I feel His Presence, not with faulty human senses or emotions, but with an awareness that transcends the abilities of my body and mind.
If Jesus suddenly appeared in front of me in a physical body, He would be no more present than He is now with me and, yes, with you (wherever you are reading this). But if He appeared physically with me and with you, and we could touch Him like His disciples touched His risen and living body, He would be no more present with us than He already is. In the unawareness of our self-focused lives, we frequently fail to see, sense, feel, perceive, the omnipresent Christ.
That’s why we are said to be in blindness. We grope in the dark while the Light is shinning brightly, more real than the sun — more dazzling. Living in the Presence of Jesus we look the other way and explain Him away with without proof; using theories and intellectual constructs to justify our desire to freely follow our opinions, our whims, our thoughts, and our cravings. But Christ remains — our denial doesn’t delete Him.
And when we come to die and our body begins to decay and fade away, Christ still is. “One life, will soon be past. Only what’s done for Christ will last.”
“Jesus Christ, the same, yesterday, today, and forever.” Open our eyes, Lord, so that we can be fully aware of You and not allow our gift of consciousness to be unconscious of the greatest reality — Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God — at whose Name “every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.”
