Who is the world’s best choreographer? The Holy Spirit! When He is given control, He choreographs participatory church meetings that are out of this world!
Choreography is the art or job of precisely arranging sequences of movements of people and/or a series of planned actions. The word literally means “dance-writing.”
A Spirit-led, participatory church meeting unfolds like choreography. In choreography, dancers don’t just sit and listen to the same man lecture about dance moves over and over again. Instead they get up and actually go through the moves in response to the choreographer’s specific instructions.
In Spirit-led church meetings, everybody present listens to what the Heavenly Choreographer tells him/her to do and then does it. The results are a complex series of testimonies, Scriptures, prayers, encouraging words, confessions, songs, short teachings, prayer requests, etc. that blend beautifully into an amazingly arranged sequence of events.
This happens every week at The Salvation Army Berry Street, 225 Berry St., Nashville, Tennessee, 37207 on Sundays @ 10:45 am. & Tuesdays @ 6:00 pm. Check it out.
At Berry Street we learn by doing. Everyday people share with, encourage, and minister to one another and see the power of Jesus Christ in action. Aristotle put it this way: “One must learn by doing the thing, for though you think you know it, you have no certainty until you try.”
Do you remember anything about the last Sunday sermon that you heard? An ancient Chinese proverb put it this way: “Tell me and I will forget. Show me and I may remember. Involve me and I will understand.” At The Salvation Army Berry Street we don’t just have one man tell the Word, week after week. Instead we involve people in sharing the Living Word with one another.
No need to just sit, watch, and listen — come and get involved with the Heavenly Choreographer!
