Church Leadership — Easy as ABC!

Church Leadership . . .  abc

A) What’s the purpose of church leaders (for example, a pastor?)
Ephesians 4:12 says that it is “to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ.” (NEB) (“Saints” are ordinary Christ-followers (not super-duper ones).

B) What’s the most effective way to equip everyday Christ-followers to minister to one another and to nonbelievers? Hands-on practice–let them learn by doing.

C) What’s the best way to give ordinary Christ-followers hands-on practice in ministering to one another? Give them the time and the freedom during the Sunday worship service (and other church meetings) to hear and obey the promptings of the Holy Spirit by sharing testimonies, prayers, gifts of the Spirit, exhortations, words of encouragement, short teachings, Scriptures, insights, etc.

For more information, here’s a challenge to pastors:  Pastor Challenge for 2015.

About Steve Simms

I like to look and think outside the box. In college I encountered Jesus Christ and I have been passionate about trying to get to know Him better ever since. My wife and I co-lead a non-traditional expression of the body of Christ in Nashville based on open participation and Spirit-led sharing. We long to see the power and passion of the first Christ-followers come to life in our time. I have written a book about our experiences called, "Beyond Church: An Invitation To Experience The Lost Word Of The Bible--Ekklesia" that is available in Kindle & paperback @

  1. If you should click the link to view this video capsule of A Restored PHILADELPHIA, for best audio listening results, use earbuds or ear phones.

I’m a regular CHRIST follower to whom the music and lyrics of this anthem was downloaded after meditating on Wm Penn’s Prayer for Philadelphia in 1684.

I am becoming myself in HIM, having been released by Pastor, Rick Smail –
who currently serves the people of New Life Church in Rochester, Indiana.

As my pastor here in Philadlohia he made it a habit to frequently asked “….so what is Holy SPIRIT saying to you today” and thereby releasing me as a worship servant/leader to be poised to listen for the new song.

Cradle Of LIBERTY became such an audible.

Shalom in 2015 to you and yours Bro. Simms

Great insight. You should write a (very short) book on how to do church! It’s really simple!
