25 words or less — My favorite thing about Jesus is . . .

25 words or less to win money and prizes? How about 25 words or less to express and release the glory of God?

There is power in creatively writing from the heart! In the 1950s and 60s many companies conducted contests based on people finishing a sentence in “25 words or less.” A panel of judges would decide the winner who would receive prizes and/or cash awards.

25 words or less

One woman, Evelyn Ryan, by continually writing entries for “25 words or less” contests was able to win every appliance she ever owned, and also cars, TV sets, bicycles, watches, a jukebox, and even trips to Dallas, New York, and Switzerland. Her daughter tells Evelyn’s story in the book and movie, The Prize Winner of Defiance, Ohio.

What would happen if everyday Christ-followers around the world began to creatively write about their faith in Jesus in 25 words or less and then post their writings on social media, blogs, through texting, business cards, signs, flyers, chat rooms, etc.? Let’s start a movement — 25 words or less 4 Jesus!

I’ll start the first 25 for Jesus here. (And perhaps some of you will start your own 25 words or less 4 Jesus.)

Please complete this sentence in 25 words or less in the comment section of this post. One of my favorite thing about Jesus is . . .

Here’s mine to get the words rolling:

One of my favorite things about Jesus is the way He daily interacts with me as a present reality (not a historical figure), encouraging, comforting, challenging, guiding, healing, and filling me with strength.

I’m looking forward to reading your 25 words for Jesus in the comments . . .

I posted this on Facebook and have had 4 responses there. Here they are:

Angela Davis said: “My favorite thing about Jesus is…that He meets me right where I am, in my mistakes, my frustrations, my joys, my tears. Come unto Me…’ no matter what!”

Dodi Christofferson posted: “How He can speak only to me in the midst of a crowd. How he shows me truth and can convict without condemning.”

Carol Roberts wrote: “Not only has Jesus died for me and invited me to live eternally with Him, He is present with me today helping me, guiding me, loving me. Even when I make bad decisions, He is there to forgive me, pick me up, dust me off and set me on the right path. He gives me a zest for life I could never have without Him!”

Bridget Sullivan said: My favorite thing about Jesus is He loved me first even tho I was out to do my thing. Jesus was watching over me when I got clean and sober. He restored everything in my life, held me in my lows, and stood by me no mater what!”

About Steve Simms

I like to look and think outside the box. In college I encountered Jesus Christ and I have been passionate about trying to get to know Him better ever since. My wife and I co-lead a non-traditional expression of the body of Christ in Nashville based on open participation and Spirit-led sharing. We long to see the power and passion of the first Christ-followers come to life in our time. I have written a book about our experiences called, "Beyond Church: An Invitation To Experience The Lost Word Of The Bible--Ekklesia" that is available in Kindle & paperback @ http://amzn.to/2nCr5dP

His seamless garment–unparted even in death. May my life be like His garment.

  2. His love that pursues me, the words he speaks to me without condemnation and most of all that he calls me his own.
